*On the day before the festival and on the day itself, the Today screen of the Ritupatra app carries this note.*

## How the day is chosen

The new moon that ends Bhadro (Ashwin where months end at the full moon), the last day of Pitri Paksha. The day whose afternoon (the 11th and 12th muhurtas of daytime) holds the Amavasya for at least one muhurta; if both days or neither do, the earlier day (Raghunandana’s Shraddhatattva).

## Other rules, other days

- Counting by the Amavasya at sunrise: Thursday, 30 September 2027.

Traditional (Surya Siddhanta) panjikas, such as Gupta Press and Beni Madhab Sil, can differ in tithi times by hours, so in some years the day differs too. Their dates will appear here side by side once that school has been checked against a full printed year.

Tithi times are for Kolkata, in Indian Standard Time. Panjikas give Kolkata’s festival days for all of West Bengal. [Why another panjika may differ](https://ritupatra.app/support#en)
