How the day is chosen

Rath Yatra is Shukla Dwitiya of Asharh, by the tithi at sunrise: the day whose sunrise falls in the tithi. Ulto Rath is Shukla Dashami of Asharh: the day whose forenoon (the first third of daytime) holds the Dashami; if both days do, the later.

Traditional (Surya Siddhanta) panjikas, such as Gupta Press and Beni Madhab Sil, can differ in tithi times by hours, so in some years the day differs too. Their dates will appear here side by side once that school has been checked against a full printed year.

Tithi times are for Kolkata, in Indian Standard Time. Panjikas give Kolkata’s festival days for all of West Bengal. Why another panjika may differ
