Today, Wednesday · 11 Kartik

One day, as Ritupatra counts it

Today, from sunrise to night. Scroll and the sky moves on; every time here is Ritupatra’s own calculation for Kolkata.

Sunrise

5:39 am

The Sun is up, the day begins

The tithi running at the moment of sunrise is the day’s tithi: Krishna Tritiya. The Bengali date changes at sunrise too, not at midnight. Today is 11 Kartik.

The morning note

7:00 am

One notification, only if you want it

Today’s tithi and the next festival, in one note. It is made on your phone, not sent from a server, so it comes even with no signal.

The tithi changes

next day 1:07 am

The tithi can change mid-day

Today Krishna Tritiya ends at next day 1:07 am, then Krishna Chaturthi. Puja times follow this, so the app gives each tithi’s start and end to the minute.

Sunset

5:02 pm

Lamps at dusk

As the Sun sets, the app’s sky changes colour too. On a festival day the Today screen dresses up, with a greeting card to send. Coming up: Kali Puja, in 11 days.

Night

Moon 95%

The Moon as it is

At sunrise today the Moon was 95% lit, waning. Ritupatra’s sky shows it at that size, and on the night of Kojagari an owl arrives and lamps float on the water.

The days ahead

The days people wait for

The promise

No ads. No account. No internet needed. Nothing about you goes anywhere; your days stay yours.

Worked out on your phone

Tithi, date and festival, the app computes them itself. On a train, in a village, with no signal.

One note at 7 am

Today’s tithi and festival in a single notification. Only if you want it.

The store page will say

Data Not Collected. No name, no number, no location, nothing.

448/456Of the puja and festival days and Sandhi Puja times printed under the name of a Drik-school panjika, how many match Ritupatra’s calculation. 2017 and 2020 to 2027, Kolkata.

How it is counted

Two schools of panjika

Drik Siddhanta

The modern calculation of the Sun and Moon, followed by the Bisuddha Siddhanta panjika. Every date in the app and on this website is by this school for now.

Surya Siddhanta (traditional)

The old school, followed by the Gupta Press Directory Panjika and Beni Madhab Sil’s panjika. Ritupatra computes it too; it comes to the app and to this website once checked against a full printed year.
