How the day is chosen
The last day of Bhadro, Bhadro Sankranti. Ashwin begins, by the West Bengal month rule, from the moment the Sun enters Kanya (Virgo, sidereal); the day before is the sankranti.
Traditional (Surya Siddhanta) panjikas, such as Gupta Press and Beni Madhab Sil, can differ in tithi times by hours, so in some years the day differs too. Their dates will appear here side by side once that school has been checked against a full printed year.
Tithi times are for Kolkata, in Indian Standard Time. Panjikas give Kolkata’s festival days for all of West Bengal. Why another panjika may differ
