How the day is chosen
Shukla Dashami of Joishtho, by the tithi at sunrise. If the tithi is at two sunrises, the later day, provided it lasts at least three muhurtas after that sunrise; otherwise the earlier day. In a year with an extra (adhik) Joishtho, Bengal keeps Dashahara in the regular month, not the extra one.
Traditional (Surya Siddhanta) panjikas, such as Gupta Press and Beni Madhab Sil, can differ in tithi times by hours, so in some years the day differs too. Their dates will appear here side by side once that school has been checked against a full printed year.
